Sloth
The three-toed sloth maintains a lifespan of 20-30 years in the wild, extending to 40 years under captive conditions. This represents a respectable tenure for a mammal of its size, achieved through the remarkably simple expedient of doing almost nothing. The sloth's metabolic rate, operating at approximately 40-45% of expected levels, effectively stretches biological time. Each heartbeat is savoured, each breath a considered decision.
The species itself has demonstrated extraordinary staying power, with ancestral forms persisting since the Oligocene epoch, some 35 million years past.
Yoda
Grand Master Yoda achieved an age of approximately 900 years before his passing on Dagobah, making individual human lifespans appear as mere footnotes. His species, deliberately left unnamed by creator George Lucas to preserve mystery, appears naturally disposed toward multi-century existence.
This extraordinary longevity allowed Yoda to train Jedi Knights across some 40 generations of galactic civilisation, accumulating wisdom at a rate impossible for shorter-lived species. His eventual death came not from biological failure but from completed purpose.
