WiFi
WiFi technology, standardised in 1997, has demonstrated remarkable staying power for a digital technology. Most technologies from that era have become archaeological curiosities: floppy disks, dial-up modems, and PDAs now reside exclusively in museums and nostalgic social media posts.
WiFi has not merely survived but evolved. Sequential generations have increased speeds exponentially whilst maintaining backward compatibility. The transition from 802.11b to WiFi 7 represents continuous improvement rather than replacement. However, wireless technology remains vulnerable to paradigm shifts. Satellite internet constellations, 5G expansion, and technologies yet unimagined may eventually render traditional WiFi as quaint as the telegram.
Yoda
Yoda's canonical lifespan of approximately 900 years establishes a benchmark few characters can approach. His species, deliberately unnamed by George Lucas, apparently enjoys extraordinary longevity. Even Yoda's death in Return of the Jedi failed to conclude his appearances, as Force ghosts permit indefinite encore performances.
As intellectual property, Yoda enjoys the protection of one of the most litigious entertainment corporations in existence. Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm ensures that Yoda will continue appearing in various media for the foreseeable future. Unlike physical technologies, fictional characters cannot become obsolete, merely unfashionable.
